The Future of Shockvertising

Shockvertising can go one of two ways in the future:

     1) Consumers are going to become so desensitized to gore, sex, and other shocking images that it will become a waste of advertising dollars. Ultimately will not bring attention to the cause at hand.

     2) Groups such as "1 Million Moms" and "Helicoptor Moms" are currently working to shelter the new generations of consumers. Once these consumers are able to purchase and make decisions for themselves, shockvertising is going to be inticing as it will aid in thier rebellion of what they were raised viewing, or rather NOT viewing. Ultimately it will persuade them to purchase from and support companies and causes they were sheltered from in their youth.

My Opinion

With anyone able to look up the reality of a situation by simply typing it in on Google, the future of shockvertising must tell the truth, be unapoligetic and blunt and include a very user-friendly and fast call to action. This includes using hashtags, dontating to a cause through text, facebook, twitter, etc. and the the ablility to share the information with the trust that it is the total truth.

I believe the gory, oversexualized phase of shockvertising is over and the shock of the state of our planet, pollution, body acceptance, and bullying to be the new focus of shocking ads. I don't see the use of social media or celebrities informing thier fans on global issues to come to a halt anytime soon, so as long as those two things (celebrity-fan involvement and social media) are utilized, this new form of shockvertising will take over.
